FAQ

Who is A.D. Bertram?

Hi! I'm a new, debut Urban Fantasy author based in Germany, writing in English (US, for now...). My first book, The Night Awaits Us All, comes out on September 22, 2026. There will be at least 4 books in the series, directly connected, releasing over the next few years.

If I purchase a pre-sale/preorder eBook, how will I get it?

I'll send your eBook order by 12 a.m. CET/6 p.m. CT/3 p.m. PT on September 22, 2026 to the email used at checkout. You'll receive an ePub3 file, which can be sent to your eReader through various platforms. Before the book launches, I'll add a comprehensive eReader guide to this website and send it to email subscribers. In the meantime, you can check these handy tips & articles, depending on your eReader:

  1. Most eReaders: download Calibre and use it to manage your books and files, when the device is plugged into a computer.
  2. Kindle: use their Send to Kindle feature.
  3. Kobo: Connect your device to a computer and load using these instructions.
  4. Boox Readers: Author Stephen Hunt has a great article on loading via computer
  5. Tablets/Phones: Most will have an app (like Apple Books or Google Play Books) that will open the file automatically when you click it. Download via the email link, then open the file and select a book reader app to view.

In general, most eReaders allow you to drop files via computer<>USB connection, though Kindle is often the weird one.

Does the ePub have DRM (Digital Rights Management) or other protections?

Generally, no! There is a 3-download limit on the file sent to you via email, just to be safe, but if you have a case for downloading more times, please feel free to reach out. I don't use DRM because I want this book to be read, not sold. I may take certain other safety precautions, but I choose to be optimistic: if you're sharing it, people are reading.

What's your stance on using A.I. and uploading content to LLMs/SLMs (local or otherwise)?

HARD no. Me, my developmental editor, and all beta readers agreed to zero use of LLMs, especially known generative A.I. tools, during the process of creating this book. I'm at the point where I even avoid machine learning, though it was a huge support throughout my career (not in writing), before generative models became popular.

Generative content is not a legitimate form of art. Please don't upload or use this book with any LLMs of any kind, until we know that further regulations are in place to protect artists and avoid copyright infringement (regardless what the courts rule...) by said technology.

Return Policy

When purchasing an eBook, you are asked to waive the 14-day return requirement as designated in the EU for all purchases. For preorders, you're welcome to contact me anytime before Sept. 22 and I can cancel your order. After the date of fulfillment, you'll no longer be eligible for a return, per your agreement to waive rights at checkout.
